STUVA Conference from 24 to 26 November 2021
From November 24 to 26, one of the world's largest conferences on underground construction, the STUVA conference, took place in Karlsruhe under strict 2G plus conditions. Under the direction of our former institute director Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Ziegler as chairman of the "Studiengesellschaft für Tunnel und Verkehrsanlagen" (Study Society for Tunnels and Transportation Systems) - STUVA for short - with well over 1,000 registered participants, numerous exhibitors and hundreds of trade visitors, no new attendance record was set, but everyone agreed that the conference was nevertheless a complete success under the safety precautions taken.
GUT was represented twice at the STUVA conference. Firstly, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Raul Fuentes presented "The new Einstein telescope - a groundbreaking tunnel project: possible sites, feasibility study, geological, constructional and geotechnical challenges, construction methods, time frame" in a lecture prepared together with colleague Univ.-Prof. Dr. Florian Amann from Engineering and Hydrogeology. On the other hand, Akad. Dir. Dipl.-Ing. Martin Feinendegen, together with Dr. Giovanni Spagnoli of the MBCC Group, reported on "Findings from ten years of bond evaluation with the cone tensile test: test performance, sample preparation, decisive evaluation factors". Both presentations met with great interest among the expert audience.
